How to Enable Logical Drives Security Permission in Windows XP?

Sometimes a Local System Administrator wants to define the Security Permissions to the local system users in Microsoft Windows XP and the current computer is not a member of any domain. This computer can be running with a simple internet connection or may be just for home use. But the Local System Administrator is unable to define the Folder/Logical Drives Security Permission for system users. It is due to of default configuration of Windows XP.
However, it is very simple to assign the Logical Drive Security permissions to the system users. Just follow the below given procedure.

Step 1: Go to the folder or logical drive you want to define security permission and then “Right Click” on it and then select “properties”. Now Select the “Security” tab from the above given tabs in properties window. In “Security” tab you can assign the security permissions to the system users in “Group or user names:” option. You can also add or remove users you want to restrict them from your file folders or system logical drives.
As shown in the images below,
Right click on the drive and Select Drive Properties.

Select "Security" Tab and define the permissions to users.





Note: Unfortunately most of the times this option does not appear in “Properties window”. So, Then follow the "Step 2".

Step 2: Open “My Computer” and then select “Tools” option from the top menu and then select “Folder Options”. Now select “View” tab, from the top given tabs and in view tab uncheck the check box “Use simple file sharing”.

Click on the "Tools" option from above menu bar and Select Folder Options.

In "View" Tab uncheck the option "Use simple file sharing".


Step 3: Now go back to “step 1” and follow the instructions given "Step 1".
